Confidential, Professional Counselling in Harpenden

Taking care of yourself emotionally and psychologically is just as important as taking care of your physiological needs. In fact often our clients find combining counselling with physiotherapy helps them find the root cause of their problems, to achieve long term health and wellbeing.

Why counselling?

If you’re affected by depression, anxiety, stress, if you’ve recently suffered a trauma, are battling with addiction, or coping with the loss of a loved one, counselling can help. Regular counselling sessions in a safe and comfortable environment with a counsellor you can trust, can help you to understand and address the cause of your problems. The self-awareness and understanding that comes from our counselling services will enable you to make the changes you need to help you live a happy and fulfilled life.

Find your Safe Space here with us

Clare Johnston, our experienced, BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered counsellor, provides a safe space for clients in and around Harpenden to explore their emotional needs, and overcome the issues creating emotional and/or physical problems. Common issues covered include:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Loss
  • Addiction
  • Sexual issues
  • Trauma

Our client-led ‘talking therapy’ approach

Clare’s talking therapy approach to counselling helps clients to talk through their issues, and in doing so, find the solutions to the problems they are facing.  The aim of talking therapy is to help clients explore their own feelings, concerns and issues, to help them better understand how to manage them.

Talking therapy is effective for everything from grief and bereavement counselling, trauma support and in helping to overcome depression.

The comfort of our clients, both physically and emotionally, is of the utmost importance to us. By establishing a safe space, where clients feel they can share and talk through their concerns and experiences without judgment or prejudice, we help them to gain self-awareness of their problems and find the solutions that will help them deal with and overcome them, in order to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

What to expect from your first session

Your first assessment session will be for Clare to get to know you, to go over the confidentiality aspect, and to agree what you’d like to achieve from your sessions. The subsequent weekly sessions will be where you and Clare can discuss and look deeper at the causes of any issues or problems and also check-in to understand and gauge progress.

Sessions are 50 minutes long, at a rate of £60 per session.

Our counselling services are available at our Harpenden Physiotherapy practice. Click here for more information on where to find us.

Counselling combined with other forms of treatment

If, during your counselling sessions, Clare feels an alternative or complementary form of treatment is required, she can make recommendations accordingly.

Often emotional distress can manifest itself to cause physical pain, in which case counselling in conjunction with physiotherapy can address the root cause of your issue, and Clare can help advise on this.
