Shockwave therapy is evidence-based non-invasive treatment of soft tissue injuries, specifically tendon and plantar fascia. It is an effective and safe alternative to steroid injection or surgery when an injury has become chronic and non-healing. ESWT is included in NICE guidelines.
It activates the healing process by provoking an acute phase of healing and by stimulating enzymes involved in reducing pain, resulting in a high rate of success in treating difficult, often chronic and very painful injuries.
We use Shockwave Therapy to treat:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Gluteal tendinopathy
- Calcific tendinopathy
- Patella tendinopathy
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Shoulder tendinopathy
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Medial epicondylitis (golfers elbow)
- Trochanteric Bursitis
The shockwaves are felt as pulses that can be slightly uncomfortable. The treatment will be started as a low intensity and only increased when appropriate and with the patient’s consent.
We can provide ESWT at home. Please contact us for more information.
Please contact the clinic and one of our physiotherapists can advise on the suitability of ESWT for particular conditions.
